Contact Your Councillors

The County Council has a long-term policy to encourage the end of the High School system in Leicestershire. It is a good idea to contact your local County Councillors to make them aware of your concerns that we won't benefit from a "one size fits all" solution of 11-16 secondaries and post-16 colleges.

Suggested Points

Your councillor is more likely to think that this is an important issue if they receive lots of varied letters, rather than copies of the same template letter. However, we have been asked for some points that you could include:
  • The current system produces excellent GCSE and A Level results;
  • Increased traffic in Oadby due to more out-of-catchment pupils and reduced free bus provision from Thurnby, Houghton, Bushby and Scraptoft;
  • Concerns about change management for existing pupils, particularly those in Year 5;
  • Cost to taxpayer of changes;
  • The County Council are wrong to encourage everyone to move to the same system in Leicestershire. They should support systems that work and deliver results.
If you aren't sure who your County Councillor is, visit Directgov and enter your postcode. Remember to contact your Leicestershire County Councillor. District and Borough Councils have no powers over education.
