In Depth

We will put extra information about the changes on this page. This includes documents about the consultation process and research by SOS supporters and others.

6//2/15 Letter from The Regional Schools' Commissioner to Zuffar Haq
The Regional Schools' Commissioner oversees academies and free schools. They are each supported by a board of 5 or 6 outstanding academy headteachers,  elected by other academy headteachers in the region.

One of the Commissioners' roles is to "approve changes to open academies, including... changes to age ranges".

SOS Oadby considered lobbying the Regional School Commissioner directly. However the office of the Commissioner have stated that people should respond to the schools. Hence our decision to petition the schools and not the Regional Schools' Commissioner.

One of our supporters wrote to the Commissioner to express concerns that she would take into account all views and concerns submitted to the schools. You can download the reply. The last paragraph states,

"I would encourage parents to feed their views into the consultation process. I assure you that any requests, once received from academies, will be very carefully considered and only approved where we are convinced that the changes will improve the education of children now and in the future. Please be reassured that business cases for age range changes will be scrutinised by my Headteacher Board before any decisions are made and the education of the children and the provision in the area now and in the future is my absolute. priority."

19/2/15 Analysis of School Changes by SOS Oadby
We have put together a detailed analysis of the changes. We did this because of the confusion in our community about the consequences of the schools’ proposals. This confusion was largely because the schools produced separate proposal documents without any requirement to integrate their plans and consider the overall picture.

SOS Oadby has attempted to understand the entire picture, and offers this analysis in the hope of clarifying the situation. We raccept that it may contain errors of fact – indeed, this is likely and is a direct consequence of the lack of coherence and detail in the three proposals. We are happy to receive corrections from any of the schools involved if factual inaccuracies are identified.
